Using a cardboard alley as a frame

Back to the alleys. One thing in particular that I find interesting about alleyways is there perspective. The further you look into the alleyway the more it narrows. As I was thought n secondary school, all lines of perspective converge at a point. I decided to use a cardboard alley as a frame to see how it can change the objects framed.

This image reminds me of a brick pattern.

It makes the coke bottle look a lot smaller in comparison to the cardboard alley.

I took more pictures out in the hall. The hall itself could be considered a form of alley consider the two narrow halls. I like these photos as well because the door really adds a dramatic  effect.

Clay pieces..

I wanted to represent my new pieces using a media I hadn't used before, something that wasn't just flat. So I used clay. Below are images of a piece I made.. I found a well splintered piece of wood and pasted some clay into the cracks. the getting a finely pointed blade I etched some of the words into the clay. I like these as I fee they are bringing me back in the direction of the alleyways. They reminded me of the crusting peeling off paint and the layers.

Again inspired by the bricks which I had earlier looked at, I want to build a sort of wall with tablets containing these scrawls of graffiti. So I rolled out 14 irregular squares and rectangles, varying in size. While it was still wet I used my earlier taken tracings to trace some of the more iconic words. That done, I was told to be careful how I dry them as some of the bricks were quite fragile. I chose to Air dry them, Ill update here later on how they turn out.

Tracings

After taking the photos of the graffiti around the bathroom stalls I then went around to all the female bathrooms in the college and took tracings of the graffiti using tracing paper. These in themselves turned out very promising and could be used as finished pieces. I hope to use these to make  3D piece and perhaps to do some prints from...

Graffitti

I have returned to my original inspiration, graffiti. earlier today in the girls toilets I noticed the scrawl of graffiti etched into the walls of the bathroom cubicles. Not the type of graffiti you first think of at the mention of the word.. but straight forward handwriting or doodles onto the wall. I found myself reading them and even going as far as laughing at the comments on the wall. Someone sitting exactly where I was had wrote these, funny, non sensible statements and quips. What was especially amusing was how there would be conversations held on these walls. These graffiti bear evidence to the history of the comings and going of the cubicle. Similar to thee alleyways which are littered in more elaborate versions of these graffiti's, it adds a crude, ugly form of art to a bare wall/ canvas. Inspiring to say the least :) Although I bet the cleaning ladies would have a word or 2 contradicting that...

Urban photographs..

I've had these photos awhile. I had went out in the city of Limerick again to take photo's and these are what I came up with. I really like them as you can see a different, more focused approach as compared to my first expedition of photo taking. I was more interested in the fine detail and textures of the environments. I also had a stronger awareness and open mindedness.

This is my favourite image I have taken. It looks as though it has been edited digitally when it hasn't bin touched. I love the dark mysterious feel it presents to the viewer.
